HOME

The piece is done with cut little strips of world maps threaded one by one into the holes of a tapestry canvas. The piece has 43400 holes. The edge is made with cut atlas pages with names of cities. The finished artwork represent a symbolic doormat, a way to explore the nuances of “Home” and what defines it. As a migrant I’m always confronted with the notion of “Home”: Is it the place you were born, the place of your ancestors, the place you are currently living in? By taking a world map to make the artwork “Home” I state that the world is our shared and common “Home”.
