HYBRID
“Hybrid” emerged naturally following my move from Australia to Singapore. I was suddenly confronted with a completely new environment and had to redefine my place in these new surroundings. I found myself in an unknown place, and new roots began to grow in this new soil. Organic forms emerge in this new body of work; repetitive lines cross the canvas, scratching it, and, tessera by tessera, the experience of growing and eroding takes form. My mind and body engage fully in this artwork. The action of scratching the lines becomes both a metaphor for the passing of time and a mark of the reality of its passing. The pattern becomes a temporal mark, growing, searching, and disappearing. As is the world around me,
