FLORASTIC

Hundreds of red florets, meticulously crafted from discarded plastic fruit nets and bags, confront the viewer with a stark reflection on consumerism and its mounting toll on the environment. I begin by slicing found plastic bags into long, thread-like strips, winding them into yarn. From this synthetic fiber, I crochet circular forms around salvaged fruit mesh bases, shaping florets roughly the size of a rose. Once complete, these artificial blooms are anchored into the soil and scattered across natural landscapes—a vivid reminder of how human waste embeds itself in the very fabric of the Earth. What appears delicate and organic is, beneath the surface, a signal of distress—beauty forged from waste, thriving where it was never meant to grow.
